HELPFUL HINTS FOR SMOOTH RUNNING PC!

  • Microsoft, nor Apple WILL EVER CALL YOU OR POP UP ON YOUR COMPUTER TELLING YOU THAT THEY NEED TO REMOTE INTO YOUR COMPUTER BECAUSE YOU HAVE A VIRUS!!! This is always a scam. Unless you were the one who initiated the call for help, it is ALWAYS fake!! If your browser seems to be locked up with a message saying you are infected, close it, or turn off your computer. When it reboots, do Not restore the pages that were not closed correctly.
  • Backup your data, We can help with this.
  • Run disk defragmenter on hard drive Do this every 1 to 2 weeks (Windows XP Only, Vista, Windows 7 & 8 do this automatically every Wednesday night, so make sure your computer is on then to take advantage of this tool)
  • Run error check on hard drive Do this if the machine is acting up or running noticeably slow
  • Have and use antivirus software Download updates every week and scan at least once a week... DO NOT USE McAfee, it's the worst Antivirus out there. Windows 10 has it's own great antivirus called Windows Defender. You have to remove 3rd party software to activate it.
  • Have anti-spyware software and use it Download updates every week and scan often, (I would purchase full version of Malwarebytes as it is one of the only tools that fully protects against Ransomeware)
  • Run disk cleanup on your hard drive Double click on the “This PC” on your desktop, then right click on local disk, select properties, then click on disk cleanup
  • Always run your updates on Adobe, Java and Windows!

Here is a site where you can do a free scan of your hard drive to find out if you have any virus's on your drive. You can also usually clean them out, plus it’s free!
